Use this drill to hit through and take turf consistently!
Have you ever been in the middle of a round of golf, feeling good about your game, when suddenly you top the ball? It’s frustrating.
Not only does it ruin your shot, but it can also ruin your confidence for the rest of the round.
If you’re someone who has been struggling with topping the ball, you’re not alone. Topping the ball is a common problem among golfers of all skill levels.
Fortunately, there is a drill that can help you consistently hit through the ball and take turf.
I call this the “taking the tee drill”. Here’s how it works:
- Start by placing a tee in the ground, about two inches in front of the ball.
- Take your normal address position, with the ball in the center of your stance.
- Focus on hitting the ball and the tee at the same time.
- Swing through the ball, making sure to take a divot after you hit the ball.
The taking the tee drill is a great way to teach your body to hit through the ball, rather than just hitting the top of it. By focusing on hitting the tee and the ball simultaneously, you can train your body to hit down on the ball and take turf.
But don’t just take my word for it. Many professional golfers, including Tiger Woods, use this drill to improve their game. In fact, Tiger has been known to hit a tee in his practice swing to ensure that he’s hitting through the ball and taking turf.
Of course, the tee drill won’t fix all of your swing problems overnight. But it’s a great place to start if you’re someone who struggles with topping the ball. And the best part is that you can do this drill anywhere – on the range, on the course, or even in your own backyard.
So, the next time you find yourself topping the ball, try the tee drill.
By consistently hitting through the ball and taking turf, you’ll be well on your way to a more consistent swing and a lower score.
